When first looking up new stories on natural disasters I look at the CNN world link because it has been helpful in reporting on stories all around the world including the environmental hazards and disasters that occur. The website also follows up on the progress of the disasters as far as relief or other issues, since recovery after a disaster can be a very long process and it much more complex than just one report on an issue.

This link shows a map of locations where natural disasters or hazards are occurring around the world for the current month that it is. This is helpful in seeing what areas of the world are experiencing different types of environmental problems and it can lead to links on specific stories.

The NASA website gives very interesting satellite imagery using remote sensing that can give a birds eye view of things that are occurring throughout the world. It can be used to see things such as wildfires and the extent/damage or scarring for it. It can also be used to look at the extent of flooding or the destruction caused by volcanic eruptions, which can be helpful.

This website gives an hourly updated display of various maps globally and nationally. Users can choose what kind of map they want, such as precipitation hourly, relative humidity, temperatures and winds. A user can also decide if they want to look at the map globally or by a list of different regions they list.

Weather Underground: severe weather map

This is a link to the Weather Underground severe weather map for the day. It is very easy to read and see where different hazards are throughout the United States and the extent of them. It is updated daily so it is constantly changing.

Hurricane Tracker

This is a sweet interactive map that tracks hurricanes and tropical storms. It follows the path of the storm, so people can see where the storm is expected to hit, what the maximum speeds are, what the pressure is and follows a wind speed chart. The link can tell you what kind of storm it is, and the category of the storm. It also allows you to zoom in and out to show where the storm is in location to the rest of the world. It is a lot of information all in one link!
